Let's talk about the mind
What is it? Is it the most important part of us? Do you mind talking about it?
The mind lives in your brain, so they say, the brain is important to you, it controls you and you can't live without it.
Interesting, the brain fascinates me so much but not as much as the mind, now that intrigues me even more.
Here are the physical parts of the brain...
So lets get into the mind a bit more here...
What is the mind made up of and why do we have a mind?
Where do our thoughts, ideas, wishes come from?
They say ‘the mind' often refers to the seat of human consciousness, the thinking, feeling I… Therefore I am… But where does that come from though?
From the universe, a great mind somewhere up in the sky, from a large collective computer gathering our thoughts feelings and experiences in life… I would like to know.
Who knows?
There are lots of great scholars from the past and now, studying the mind, lots of research papers and studies, it confuses me and blows my mind...
Wiki says “the mind is a set of cognitive faculties including:
- consciousness
- perception
- thinking
- judgement
- language
- memory
It is usually defined as the faculty of an entity's thoughts and consciousness. It holds the power of imagination, recognition and appreciation, and is responsible for processing feelings and emotions, resulting in attitudes and actions.
As you can see the brain and the mind are different, the brain is a physical part that you can see, repair, operate on, whereas the mind, well it's all in the mind lol you can't see it, but it's there, in your mind, a different entity.
A formless continuum that functions to perceive and understand objects.
Ok, there are parts in the mind which are called the Conscious, the Sub-conscious, the Unconscious , and according to Freud these parts are made up like this working together to create our reality:
Conscious 10%
Subconscious 50-60%
Unconscious 30-40%
Not much going on in the Conscious mind lol.
So, the Conscious mind is having awareness of something, being able to call it to mind. It's the tip of the iceberg of the mind. It's your objective and thinking mind, it has no memory and can any hold one thought at a time. Information comes into your conscious through your senses, sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch and feeling. Your mind is continually processing the information around you. It's fully alert (maybe not at some times), where most people live day to day, where all the action is and where your Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) is assessed. The conscious mind communicates to the outside world and the inner self through speech, pictures, writing, physical movement and thought. It has the ability to direct your focus and to imagine that which is not real.
Now let's delve deeper, into the sub-conscious…
Do we dare to enter…
Here goes…
Thinking back and remembering at certain ages like when you were a teenager how come you don't remember everything that happened to you only significant events or memories, why can't you remember it all, well you do, all in the subconscious though but you only recall certain events in your consciousness but why does that happen why can't you remember it all and recall when you want it to, can our brains or minds handle it, no not really it will blow your mind taking all that information in your conscious mind. So what is the sub conscious? It's a storage space, a computer with memory that runs in the background, taking in everything that you see, hear, smell, taste, feel etc from your senses. The sub conscious mind is a large part of us, also unknown part of us, it also stores our dreams, thoughts and hopes, everything that has ever happened to you. As a spiritual person, I believe the Akashic records are stored in this part of the mind, storing all of our past lives too, who knows lol. I often wonder why I can't access this part of the mind easily, so consciously, but we can't in a conscious way so easily. There are ways to access your sub conscious in a controlled way such as meditation, hypnotherapy, mindfulness etc. By stopping and being still, being in the now, being aware of your breathing, your surroundings. But we can't live in our sub conscious permanently, we wouldn't survive. Although its sometimes a nice place to be!!!!
Your sub conscious is part of your mind where you are not fully aware, existing beneath or beyond your conscious. It's function is to store and retrieve data in your mind, although as I get older the retrieving bit gets harder!!!
Your sub conscious mind is subjective, it doesn't think or reason independently, it doesn't even know the difference between what's real or fake. It just obeys the commands from the conscious.
It can grow flowers or weeds in your garden of the mind, so be careful what you plant inside of it. Nurture it with positive thoughts, feelings, and happiness. Plant seeds of hope, joy and positive growth. But, the sub conscious takes time and repetition to change only because of your past responses and experiences. It needs the repetition to make changes, only because if you have done the same thing day in day out your sub conscious reverts back to your comfort zone. So to make good positive changes you need to repeat to your sub conscious this is what we do now. This is what we do now. This is what we do now. This is what we do now.
Make a habit to change what you want in your sub conscious.
Get out of your comfort zone.
Your sub conscious will change.
I am often looked at as a positive person, but I have been through many traumas in my life, some traumas not many people know of.
But how do I keep positive?
That my friends lies within my sub conscious, I have the belief that I will survive, to better myself, to learn about life, to be happy whenever I can.
Through repetition of affirmation, belief, looking at things in a different way, from a different perspective, looking at things as a whole, globally.
There is more to the mind though that I have written here, there is also the unconscious, and the pre conscious, but that's another story for now.
Just remember to access your sub conscious once in a while, maybe daily, to make the changes you want. Tell yourself repeatedly… I am a good person... lol.
With love, Cazabella
